Decorah, Ia., - Special: Funeral services for Herbert M. Stoner, 60, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock with the Rev. L. W. Hauter, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Stoner was born Nov. 18, 1877 in Delaware County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Stoner. As a young man he was well known as a star catcher in the Three-J-Baseball Game. He came to Oelwein about 25 years ago and served on the local police force for a period of six years. On Sept. 5, 1922, he married Margaret Hanna of West Union. For several years he was employed by the Great Western Railroad as a detective and later he was appointed state agent in the attorney general’s office, a capacity in which he served eight years. Seven years ago he was forced to retire because of failing health.

He was taken to Mercy Hospital last Friday and he died there late Sunday afternoon.

He leaves his widow.
