Calmar- Military services for Frank Marron, 68, first commander of the American Legion post, will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Aloysius Church. The Rev. J. George Schmitz will officiate at the Requiem High Mass.
Burial will be in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery at Ossian with the Rev. E. J. Frost officiating at the grave. Members of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus will attend the services in a body. Ticket agents for the Milwaukee railroad in this area will be honorary pallbearers.
The remains will be at the French Funeral Home at Calmar until time for services. The Rosary is to be recited at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Marron died Thursday at his home of a heart attack. He was born Feb. 2, 1887, at Waucoma, Ia., a son of Joseph and Jennie Marron. He started his railroad career as telegraph operator at Giard, Ia., 50 years ago. Three years later he came to Calmar as ticket agent. For the last ten years he had been ticket agent at Ossian. He took a sick leave early last spring and was never able to return to work.
A veteran of World War I, he became the first commander of the American Legion when the post was organized here. He was active in the Knights of Columbus and for several years was fire chief at Calmar. He married Elsie Fett June 23, 1919. Their only son was killed seven years ago.
Surviving are his wife; a sister, Mrs. C. M. Burnside of Waucoma; two brothers, Harold of Waucoma and Earl of Paxton, Ill., and one grandson in California.
