Carroll Lansing, age 91, of Decorah, IA, died on Thursday, May 7, 2015, at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 11, 2015, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 307 West Main Street, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Phillip Gibbs presiding. Burial will be in St. Benedict Cemetery, Decorah, IA.

Friends may call on Sunday from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home and also after 9:30 a.m., on Monday morning at St. Benedict Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be given to the Carroll Lansing Memorial Fund, 612 Crescent Drive, Decorah, IA 52101.

Carroll Marcellus Lansing was born October 30, 1923, the son of Fred and Monica (Stortz) Lansing on the farm in Canoe Township, north of Decorah, IA. When he was a young child his parents moved to a farm north of Ossian. He attended St. Francis de Sales Catholic School through the eighth grade. He worked on his parents farm until he entered the US Navy in 1945. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to work at his parents’ farm near Ossian. On June 10, 1947, he was united in marriage to Anita Hageman of Decorah, at St. Benedict Catholic Church. This message was blessed with two children: Debra and Donald. On March 1, 1948, he and Anita moved to Decorah and Carroll was employed at Gust E. Haugen Garage, where he was employed until Dec. 31, 1982. After 34 years, the business closed and he went to work at Dahly’s Chevrolet Garage until a serious injury at work caused him to retire on June 6, 2001. He spent 51 ½ years working as a mechanic. He enjoyed working in his garden and doing yard work. On Sept. 18, 2010, he had the privilege of going on the Honor Flight to Washington DC, which he really enjoyed. He enjoyed taking several bus tours with the Hawkeye Stages and made many trips to Florida to visit family. On one trip, Carroll and Anita and six others from the group climbed to the top of the Statue of Liberty. Carroll was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and the Helof Holm VFW Chapter #1977.

Carroll is survived by his wife, Anita Lansing, Decorah, IA. Two children: Debra (Larry) Stephey, Winter Park, FL, and Donald (Carla) Lansing, Marion, IA. Four grandchildren: Laurie (fiancé, Brandon Smith) Stephey, Madison, WI; Michelle Stephey, Richmond, VA; Jeremy Lansing, Platteville, WI; and Tracy Lansing, Marion, IA. Three sisters: Veronica Riniker, Independence, IA; Victoria Lansing, Phoenix, AZ; and Margaret (John Zachar) Lansing, Greendale, WI. Three sisters-in-law: Joan Lansing, Ossian, IA; Caroline Lansing, Billings, MT; and Ruth Huber, Decorah, IA. One brother-in-law: Joe Cody, Sun Prairie, WI.

Carroll was preceded in death by his parents: Fred and Monica (Stortz) Lansing. Four brothers: Charles, Robert, Fred Jr., and Donald in infancy. Three sisters: Madonna Collins, Eleanore Cody and Angelina Lansing in infancy. His father-in-law and mother-in-law: Brothers-in-law: Bob Collins, James Shekleton, Paul Riniker, Parnell Hageman and Conrad Huber. Sisters-in-law: Rita Lansing and Rose Lou Hageman.
