Gladys Arness Funeral Services Held March 25

Funeral services for Gladys Arness, 72, of Decorah, were conducted by the Rev. John M. Ness at First Lutheran Church Thursday, March 25 with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery.

Miss Arness died March 22 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital.

Miss Arness was employed at Decorah State Bank and prior to her many years of service at the bank, had worked at the Decorah Public Opinion. She was a member of First Lutheran Church where she had taught Sunday School and was a member of the choir and the ALCW. She also was the associate treasurer of the cemetery Association for many years.

Pallbearers were Ernest Soland, Robert Soland, Frances Arness, Mike Fitzgerald, Leon Felke and the Rev. George Strum.

Mrs. Rolfe Haatvedt was organist, and Mrs. Willard Linnevold was soloist. Mrs. Ernest Soland, Mrs. Robert Soland and Mrs. Frances Arness took care of the floral gifts.

Arrangements were made by Olson-Fjelstul Funeral Home.

Gladys Harriet Arness was born May 17, 1899 in Decorah, the daughter of Mrs. {sic} and Mrs. Louis Arness. She was a graduate of Augustans Academy, Sioux Falls, S.D.

She is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Helmer (Stella) Hexom, Aase Haugen Home, Mrs. Louise Soland, Decorah, Mrs. Morris (Mabel) Holven, North Liberty, Ia. and Mrs. L.A. (Elsie) Burbank, San Antonio, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Mrs. Melvin (Alma) Allison and three brothers, Richard Arness, Edgar Arness and Albert Arness.
