Louise G. Soland

Funeral services for Louise G. Soland, 96, a Decorah homemaker, were held Saturday, Dec. 9, 1989, at 11 a.m. at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, with Pastor Richard P. Sansgaard officiating.

Fjelstul Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements , with burial at the church cemetery. Organist was Paul Bruvold, accompanying congregational singing. The hymns included “Beautiful Savior,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “Lead On O King Eternal.”

Pallbeaarers were Dan Soland, James Soland, Mark Soland, Michael Soland, Robert Soland, Ronald Soland, Leon Felke and Nanfred Felke.

Louise G. Arness was born Sept. 3, 1893, in Glenwood Township, Winneshiek County, the daughter of Louis and Gunhilda (Ramsey) Arness.

She attended rural schools of Glenwood Township and had lived in Winneshiek County her entire life. She married Embret Soland April 18, 1918, at Glenwood Lutheran Church, and he died Jan 1. 1957. She had been baptized and confirmed in her faith at Glenwood Lutheran Church. She was a member of Washington Prairie Lutheran Church and the church circles. She had been a resident of the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah since April 16, 1985. She died Dec. 6. 1989, at the Aase Haugen Home.

Survivors include seven children; Ernest Soland of Decorah, Robert Soland, of Sigourney, Donald Soland of Wenatchee, Wash., Norman Soland of Marable, N.C., Pastor Eugene Soland of San Antonio, Texas, and Lucille Reed of Galesburg, Ill.; 23 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers, five sisters and one great-grandson.
