RITES HELD FOR WM. B. SPHAR

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 13, 1957, for William Burdell Sphar, 73, at the E. U. B. Church in Castalia with the Rev. Byron Surface in charge of the rites. Burial was in the Pleasant View cemetery.

Mr. Sphar had been in failing health for the past three years and was a patient at the Decorah Hospital for the last seven weeks, where he was seriously ill and passed away Sunday, March 10, 1957.

He was born October 29, 1883, the son of the late John and Sarah McHoes Sphar. He spent all of his life on the farm where he was born, except for intervals while attending Valders college at Decorah and the State University of Wisconsin. On November 24, 1910, he was married to Miss Clara Timmerman at Postville.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife and two children, Clifford on the home place, and Grace (Mrs. Chester McIntosh) of near Decorah; four grandchildren, Howard, Duane and Judy McIntosh and Patricia (Mrs. Norman Pankow) of Calmar; three great grandchildren, Kathy Ann and Norman Pankow, Jr. and Norman McIntosh; one sister, Mrs. Alta Fischer of Janesville, Wisconsin; plus a number of nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth [Williard] Bollman and Mrs. Grace [Allen] Green.
