OTTO G. GLEISNER
Ossian, Ia.– Special: Otto G. Gleisner, 91, a resident of Ossian for 70 years, died Saturday at his home, following an illness since May 9.
Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 9:30 in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with Rt. Rev. Msgr. M. J. Thiltgen, D. D. celebrating the requiem mass. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Otto G. Gleisner was born January 20, 1852 in St. Mary’s, Pennsylvania and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Gleisner. At the age of 12 he came west with his parents. They lived at McGregor for sometime, later coming to Festina. When a young man he learned the wagon maker’s trade at Charles City. He came to Ossian when he was 21 and had a shop here. He later kept a saloon and was a partner of the late Nick Britton.
He was married twice. His first wife was Mary Meyer of Festina who died May 4, 1889. On Feb. 23, 1893, he was united in marriage with Miss Emma Meier of Milwaukee. Following their marriage they made their home here.
Surviving are his widow, four children by his first marriage:Felix Gleisner of Marquette, Iowa, Frank of Mauch Chunk, Pennsylvania, Laura of New York City and Charles of Watsonville, Calif., and four children by his second marriage: Mrs. Roy Hunter, of Davenport, Iowa, Mrs. Eva Carey, of Ossian, Roy Gleisner of Los Angeles, Calif. A son Otto “Colby” Gleisner was killed in anautomobile accident several years ago. He is also survived by one brother, Phillip Gleisner of Kansas City, Kans. Seven grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren also survive him.
