Services were held Sunday, June 4, 1972 at 2:00 p.m. from the Castalia Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia, for Ralph C. Schultz, who died Thursday, June 1, 1972 from an apparent heart attack shortly after arriving at work at Hall Roberts' Son, Postville. The Rev. Arthur J. Tolo officiated.

Ralph "Boob" Charles Schultz, son of Walter and Elsie Schroeder Schultz, was born July 22, 1920 near Ossian. He attended elementary and high school at Castalia. He was baptized November 9, 1921, and confirmed September 2, 1934, at the Castalia Zion Lutheran Church. He was still a member of that church, having served as Sunday School teacher and repeated terms on the church council, a position he was also currently serving. Mr. Schultz had also previously served as president of the Castalia school board.

September 24, 1941, Mr. Schultz was married to Vila Mae Monroe. He had worked for the Carnation Company before and after marriage and also farmed until the couple moved to Castalia again in 1970 where he was currently serving as Mayor.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter Mrs. Gene (Linda) Stubberud, Castalia; three brothers, Ronald of Monona, Kenneth of Castalia and Charles of Corpus Christi, Texas, and a sister, Mrs. E. K. (Violet) Smith, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Everett and LaVern.

Mr. Schultz served in the army during World War II from January 1, 1943, until October 31, 1945. Military rites were conducted by Arthur F. Brandt Post, American Legion, Postville.

Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia.
