Services were conducted Tuesday morning, June 15, 1971, by the Rev. Arthur J. Tolo, Castalia Zion Lutheran Church, for LaVern (Hooker) Schultz who died suddenly Sunday, June 13 at his home in Castalia.

LaVern Luver Louis Schultz was born March 18, 1917 at Castalia, a son of the late Walter and Elsie Schroeder Schultz. He spent his entire life at Castalia where he attended the public schools and had been a long time employee of Reilly Construction Co.

On March 4, 1939, he married Marcella Burrows of Postville. They had one son, Daniel Schultz of White Bear Lake, Minnesota. February 27, 1954 he was married to Darlene Szabo of Castalia. They became the parents of three sons and one daughter, Steven, Stanley, Guy and Mari Lynn, all of whom survive at home.

He is also survived by his wife; one grandchild; four brothers and one sister, Ralph and Kenneth Schultz, Castalia; Ronald, Monona; Charles of Corpus Christi, Texas and Violet (Mrs. E. K. Smith) Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

He was baptized July 18, 1917 and confirmed in 1932 in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1947.

Mr. Schultz was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Everett Schultz.

Military graveside services were conducted by members of Hammersland-Brockman American Legion Post, Ossian. Pallbearers were nephews.

Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery.
