Funeral services for Mrs. Amanda Meyer were held Friday, February 9, 1968, at Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia, with burial in Bloomfield cemetery. The Rev. Arthur Tolo, pastor of Zion Lutheran, was in charge of the rites.Amanda Bertha Meyer, daughter of Fred and Louise Schultz, was born in Clayton county on January 3.1902. Baptized in infancy by Rev. Bockelman of St. Paul Lutheran church, Postville, she was instructed and confirmed in the same church by Rev. Schmidt. Her family moved to Postville where she lived until she was married on September 27, 1924 to Carlaus Meyer of Castalia.
To this union was born one daughter, Marian, now Mrs. Larry Handke of Oelwein, and one son, Merle, of Boise, Idaho.
Except for one year in a rural school near Castalia and one year in McGregor, her entire 33 years of public school teaching were divided between Castalia and Postville. She taught from 1944 to 1958 in Castalia; in Postville in 1959-1960; McGregor one year; and returned to Postville in 1961 teaching here until her death. In interim periods she continued her education at Luther and Upper Iowa colleges, receiving her degree in 1963.
Off and on over the years she had been burdened with illness. Last Monday morning she was hospitalized at Postville. In the late afternoon, she suddenly passed away.
At her passing she leaves to mourn her departure, in addition to her husband, son and daughter; one sister, Lucia, Mrs. Fred Baltz of Postville; two brothers, Orville and Richard Schultz of Stillwater, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews and eight grandchildren.
Throughout her residence in Castalia, Mrs. Meyer was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and its church women's organizations. She was also a member of Rebecca circle.
