Ed W. Meyer
Ed W. Meyer, prominent farmer, died suddenly of a heart attack on April 30, 1962, in his home three miles north of Castalia. Mr. Meyer, who was 66 years old, had been in failing health for about one year.Funeral services were conducted last Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Zion Lutheran church at Castalia. The Rev. Walter Pfeffer officiated. Burial was in Pleasant View cemetery.
Ed W. Meyer was born March 30, 1896 at Castalia, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meyer. He spent his entire life in the Castalia vicinity, where he obtained an education by attending the rural school near his home.
On February 9, 1922, he was united in marriage with Mathilda Schweinefus, the ceremony taking place in St. Paul's Lutheran church at Postville. They established their home on the farm near Castalia.
To their union were born two sons and two daughters.
He is survived by his wife; two sons - Gene Meyer of Brandon and Milton Meyer of Castalia; and one daughter - Mariann (Mrs. Stanley Higdon) of Waterloo. One daughter, Geraldine, died at the age of five years.
Surviving also are: three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Ed Schlee and Mrs. Elmer Hoth of Postville, Mrs. Paul Koevenig of Michigan and Henry Meyer of Postville. Four brothers preceded him in death.
Mr. Meyer was a member of the Castalia school board and also served many years on the board of directors of the Pleasant View Cemetery Association.
