Harriet Evelyn Hager, daughter of Kendrick and Augusta Miller Ferris, was born April 21, 1901 at Church, Iowa. She passed away August 13, 1977 at her home in Castalia, Iowa at the age of 76 years, 3 months and 22 days.
She attended school at Lansing and Waukon. On November 16, 1918 she was married to Otto E. Hager. Two daughters were born to this union. They lived in Ludlow and Frankville and moved to Castalia in 1945.
She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Ray, Floyd and Earl Ferris; and a sister, Ethel, in infancy.
She is survived by her husband, Otto; two daughters: Mrs. Leo (Martha) Cota, Harpers Ferry, Iowa; and Mrs. James (Betty) Slaughter, McGregor, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Ruth Padden, Postville, Iowa.
Funeral services were Tuesday, August 16, 1977 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Castalia, Iowa. Services were officiated by Rev. Curtis Webster. Pianist was Mrs. Florence Albright. The Duet was by Mrs. Merlin Koenig and Mrs. Florence Albright. Burial was in the Frankville Cemetery and the Casket bearers were Raymond Slaughter, Kenneth Matthews, James Jelinek, Michael DuCharme, Lyle Bedward and Walter Jelinek.
