OTTO EDWARD HAGER

Otto Edward Hager, son of Henry and Sophia (Grotegut) Hager, was born December 13, 1896 in Ludlow Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. He passed away March 31, 1981 at his home in Castalia.
He attended the rural schools of Ludlow Township and also went to school in Dubuque for a short time. On November 16, 1918 he was married to Harriet Evelyn Ferris. Two daughters were born to this union. They lived in the Ludlow and Frankville area, moving to Castalia in 1945 where he was employed by the Carnation Company.
He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, a granddaughter in infancy, six brothers: Bill, Fred, Henry, Edward, Elmer and John; and three sisters: Lydia (Mrs. Herman Nolting), Helen (Mrs. Albert Henning), and Sophia (Mrs. Earl Livingood).
Surviving are two daughters: Mrs. Leo (Martha) Cota of Harpers Ferry, IA and Mrs. Jim (Betty) Slaughter of McGregor, IA; eleven grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Henrietta Ewing of Waterloo, IA.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Castalia.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 3, 1981, 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Castalia, Iowa. Rev. Curtis Webster officiated. The pianist was Mrs. Florence Albright and a duet was sung by Mrs. Merlin Koenig and Mrs. Florence Albright. Burial was in the Frankville Cemetery and Casket bearers were Kenneth Matthews, Walter Jelinek, Steve Petsche, James Jelinek, Lyle Bedward and Lyle Guese.
