Mary Jane Lucille Schutte
The six year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eldo Schutte of Castalia passed away at the Decorah hospital Saturday morning following a major operation. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the St. Paul Lutheran church at Postville. She is survived by her parents, two sisters and one brother. Burial was made in Postville cemetery.This little newspaper clipping was hand dated 1943. And next to it is pasted a longer obituary, hand dated Dec. 11, 1943. It reads as follows:
Funeral services were held here Tuesday afternoon at St. Paul's Lutheran church for Mary Jane Schutte who had passed away at the Decorah hospital on Saturday morning following a brief illness. The Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig officiated at the service during which the Junior choir sang "Jesus Loves Me" and Marian Meyer sang the solo, "Around the Throne of God in Heaven." Pallbearers were Myrl Dean Dickman, Leonard Meyer, Vernon Gericke, and Paul Willman, Jr. Interment was in the Postville cemetery.
Mary Jane Lucille Schutte was born in Marion township, Clayton county, July 7, 1937, the daughter of Eldo Schutte and Verla Willman Schutte. When she was two years old the family moved to Bloomfield township, Winneshiek county, which had since been her home.
She is survived by her parents, two sisters, Betty Mae and Jo Ann, and one brother, Marlin as well as many other relatives and a host of friends. One brother, Marvin, passed away 15 years ago.Postville Herald newspaper clippings from my mother's obituary collection.
