Mrs. MILLARD (Elsie M. Schweinefus) SAMPSON
 
Funeral service for Mrs. Millard Sampson was held Thursday, June 24, 1993, 10 a.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia. The Reverend H. W. Wolfgram officiated. Dorothy Wolfgram was the organist and Kenneth Timmerman, soloist. The Schutte Funeral Service, Postville, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery at Castalia.

Elsie M. Sampson, daughter of Charles and Anna (Althouse) Schweinefus, was born July 19, 1906 on a farm in Dover Township, Fayette county, IA. She died June 21, 1993, at Oelwein Care Center, Oelwein, at the age of 86.

She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed on May 15, 1921, at Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia.

On February 26, 1926, she was married to Millard Sampson by Rev. Hoferer at the home of her parents near Castalia. To this union two sons were born. They farmed all of their life in the Castalia area and moved to Castalia in 1964. Elsie became a resident of the Oelwein Care Center in September of 1992.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1985 and a son, Wayne in 1960. She was also preceded by four brothers: Leo, Frank, Otto and one in infancy and six sisters: Mabel Wirkler, Lena Everman, Francis Reinhardt, Lizzie Schroeder, Viola Kohls and Tillie Meyer.

Surviving are a son, Daryl and his wife, Gladys, and a grandson, Dean, all of Castalia; a sister: Esther and her husband, Donald Stoessel, West Union.

Elsie was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, and the Women of the ELCA. Her great love was her garden which she looked forward to every year.

Casket bearers were: Leon Everman, Kenneth Kohls, Milton Meyer, Charles Kohls, Dean Sampson, Kenneth Schroeder, Lawrence Kohls, William Szabo.
