MILLARD SAMPSON 1902-1985

Funeral services for Millard Sampson were held Friday, July 12, 1985 at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia. Rev. H. W. Wolfgram officiated.

Mrs. Gary Breitsprecher was organist. Page Wirkler was soloist and sang, "Rock of Ages" and "What a Friend We Have In Jesus".

The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Castalia.

Millard Sampson, son of Lars and Dora (Johnson) Sampson, was born Oct. 7, 1902 in Clayton County, Iowa. He died July 10, 1985 at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville.

He was baptized and confirmed at the West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont, and attended the rural schools of Clayton County.

February 26, 1926 he was married to Elsie Schweinefus by Rev. Hoferer at the home of her parents near Castalia. They were parents of two sons. They farmed all of their life in the Castalia area.

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and had served on the church council.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Wayne in 1960, a brother, Selmer and two sisters, Daisy Stry and Helen Berentson.

Surviving are his wife, Elsie, a son, Daryl and his wife, Gladys, a grandson, Dean, all of Castalia, and three sisters, Malvina (Mrs. Guy Williams) of Postville, Clara (Mrs. Donald Burget) of Poway, CA and Esther (Mrs. Harry Johnson) of Mt. Vernon, IL.

Casket bearers were Kenneth Schroeder, Leon Everman, Ed Troupe, Milton Meyer, Kenneth Kohls and Mike Stoessel. Honorary casket bearers were Eugene Szabo, Lowell Corlett, Earle Corlett, Ed Schnuelle and Dwayne Reisner.
