William Bareis
William Bareis, the son of George Bareis and his wife, Eva Louise Engele Bareis, was born in Germany on May 11, 1881. He was baptized May 14, 1881 and confirmed April 8, 1900 by the Rev. Bockelsmann. He passed away November 10, 1960 at the Postville Community Hospital at age of 79 years, six months.
He was married to Augusta Kuhse February 10, 1915. To this union were born two daughters and one son. He lived in the community, first farming and then doing carpentry work, making his home in Castalia with a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in February, 1940; one daughter Maurine, age eight months; three brothers, Fred of Castalia, John of Postville and Henry of Cresco; one sister, Mrs. Caroline Knodt of St. Paul; and one son-in-law, Everett Schultz of Castalia.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Julius Dettman of Luana; one son Arbe of Ottumwa; one sister, Mrs. Joseph Duwe of Postville; five grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
He was a life-long member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Also a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge of Postville. He was active and in good health until his death, being sick only a few hours.
Funeral services were conducted in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Postville on November 12, 1960, the Rev. C. E. Witt, officiating. Burial was in Postville cemetery.
