Schweinefus, LaVern -- 1916 - 1990

LaVern Schweinefus, son of William and Minnie (Abbe) Schweinefus, was born Nov. 2, 1916 at Castalia. He died Oct. 25, 1990 at Palmer Lutheran Health Center at West Union at the age of 73 years.

He received his education in the rural school of Castalia in Winneshiek County. He was confirmed at the Lutheran Church at Castalia and was a member of the church until 1980 when he joined the St. Olaf Lutheran Church at West Union.

On April 6, 1942 he married Margaret Wander at the Lutheran parsonage with Rev. C. J. Rebelien performing the ceremony.

He became a member of the board of directors of the Pleasant Ridge Telephone Co. in 1959 and was also a director on the Ace Telephone Co. board for 18 years. He was also elected to the Bloomfield Community A. S. C. Committee of Winneshiek County.

The couple farmed for 36 years in the Castalia area. LaVern held many offices in the Lutheran Church at Castalia and was also a member of the Senior Citizen group of Castalia. His interests and enjoyment were in farming, gardening, and fishing.

Preceding him in death were his parents; 4 brothers, Ernest, Earlan, Irvin and Melvin; and triplet sisters, Alma, Elvina and Augusta.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret, 1 brother, Martin of Muscatine, his twin sister, Lorene Schweinefus of Ossian.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 29, 1990 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, West Union, by the Rev. Roger McKinstry. Organist was Helen Guyer, Soloist was Kenneth Timmerman.

Pallbearers: Kenneth Timmerman, Norman Schultz, Kenneth Meyer, William Szabo, Robert Szabo and Leon Everman.

Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia.
