MRS. GEORGE H. (Miner) VAN WEY

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, March 6, for Mrs. Miner Van Wey, who passed away Thursday evening, March 3, following a short illness at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Maud Myren. Robert Reynolds, student pastor here officiated at the Community Church. Mrs. Merle Cook and Miss Jeanne Schroeder sang two numbers and Mrs. Leslie Laterman accompanied them. Burial was made in the Frankville cemetery.

Mrs. Van Wey was born October 7, 1869, at Wyandotte, Ohio. At the age of 14, she moved with her parents, John and Martha Roseberry Kirby to Plankinton, South Dakota.

She married George H. Van Wey March 11, 1890 and they moved to Frankville in 1893. Eleven children were born, seven of whom are living, as follows: Maud, Mrs. Halvor Myren of Frankville, Mae, Mrs. George Cunningham of Waterloo, Walter of Frankville, Daisy, Mrs. Charles Hendershot of Oceanside, California, Myrtle, Mrs. Charles Webster of Waterloo, Carl of Pomona, California and Irvin of Ralston, Nebraska.

Mrs. Van Wey was a member of the Frankville Community Church, the Willing Workers and the Womens' Christian Temperance Union. She was 90 years old last October 7.

Years ago she was instrumental in helping to organize the old "Village Improvement Society". When the sidewalks were built and many other improvements were made in Frankville. Mrs. Van Wey was also interested in the new organization and street lighting system in Frankville.

Her husband, one daughter and three sons preceded her in death. She is survived by 20 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.

Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cunningham, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Moore, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Walters, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Muchow, Mrs. Juanita Van Wey, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Van Wey, Mrs. Myrtle Webster, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ewing and Charlene Ewing, all of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Van Wey of Ralston, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Roger Aschebrook and Mrs. Ocea Aschebrook, of Marshfield; and numerous other relatives and friends.
