Leo Fred Schafee

Leo Fred Schafee, son of Henry John and Anna Marie (Lange) Schafee, was born May 12, 1904 on a farm near Decorah, Iowa. He died September 2, 1994 in the Winneshiek County Hospital at Decorah, Iowa. He was 90 years old.

Leo farmed in Frankville Township, between Ossian and Decorah, Iowa. He was a member of the Ossian Lutheran Church. Several years ago, he purchased a carillon system for the church. He served as treasurer for the Greenwood Cemetery for many years. Leo loved to travel and made many trips abroad.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Walter who died in 1915, and a sister, Lucille K. S. Schafee, who died in 1964.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 7, 1994 in the Ossian Lutheran Church at Ossian, Iowa. The Reverend Wayne Ellingson officiated. The organist was Elaine Knutson. Mrs. Irmgard Ellingson and Mrs. Theresa Hertges sang two duets in German. Casket bearers were Dale Schildmeyer, Joe Schildmeyer, Charles Berg, Floyd Pearson, Virgil Birdsell, Larry Ramstad, Troy Ramstad and Jerry Monroe. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Greenwood Centennial Cemetery.
