Dan Murray, age 60, of Decorah, IA, died on Saturday, November 15, 2014, as a result of an automobile accident near Decorah, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 20, 2014, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 307 West Main St., Decorah, IA, with Rev. Phillip Gibbs presiding. Burial will be in the St. Benedict Cemetery, Decorah, IA.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, November 19, at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Ave, Decorah, IA, and also after 9:30 a.m., at the church on Thursday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m., on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Daniel Eugene Murray was born on October 23, 1954, the son of Eugene and Mary (Kelly) Murray in New Hampton, IA. Dan attended Mt. Carmel Catholic School in Lawler and graduated from Turkey Valley High School in 1973. While in high school, Dan worked for his dad at the cattle buying station. After high school, he started buying cattle and he worked for Packerland, Sunstar Meats, Federal Beef Processors, Mississippi Valley Livestock, Valley Pride Pack, and then for Tyson Fresh Meats, as well as other customers. He and Millie owned and operated Murray Livestock Transport (MLT) for the last ten years. Dan was united in marriage to Mildred “Millie” Pavlovec on May 10, 1975, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, and they had two children, Sam and Katie. Dan dearly loved his grandchildren and always made them his main priority. He enjoyed taking vacations with Millie, four wheeling with his grandchildren and was very proud of his Irish heritage. Dan was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church.

Dan is survived by his wife: Mildred “Millie” Murray, Decorah, IA. One son: Sam (Patty) Murray, Amboy, MN. Daughter: Katie (Phil) Yocum, Mabel, MN. Five grandchildren: Bailey, Natalie, Chloe, and Sophie Murray, and Connor Yocum. Sister: Jane (Al) Kipp, Northfield, MN; Margaret “Peg” (Mike) Crowley, Burnsville, MN; John (Lori) Murray, New Hampton, IA; Therese “Tess” (Brad) Sheehy, East Bethel, MN; Katherine “Kathy” Harner, Chicago, IL; and Mark (Kristen) Murray, Centennial, CO. Three aunts: Agnes Nulty, Cedar Rapids, IA; Shirley Murray, New Hampton, IA; and Carol Kelly, Owatonna, MN. His mother-in-law: Grace Pavlovec, Fort Atkinson, IA. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Dan (Vicki) Pavlovec, St. Lucas, IA; Mary (Al) Hayek, Fort Atkinson, IA; Mike Pavlovec, Decorah, IA; and Joe (fiancé, Laura DeLuca) Fairview Heights, IL, along with many niece, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents: Eugene and Mary (Kelly) Murray. His brother: Gerald Murray as a child who died in 1953. His father-in-law: Dan Pavlovec.
