Orlando “Hap” Halverson, age 98, of Decorah, IA, died on Saturday, November 15, 2014, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, IA.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Joseph Needham, from the Living Hope Baptist Church, in Ossian, IA.

Friends may call after 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday morning at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home.

Orlando Herbert “Hap” Halverson was born on November 25, 1915, the son of Hans and Mabel (Rustad) Halvorson on the family farm near Frankville, IA. Hap attended country school near Frankville and helped on the family farm. On September 24, 1940, Hap was united in marriage to Olga Marianne Roed, at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Parsonage. Together they farmed near Decorah, before Hap went to work at K & S Super Valu and for the Decorah Water Department. Hap enjoyed gardening, woodworking, walking, riding his bicycle and motorcycle. Hap loved to golf; which he did until the age of 92. Hap always had a big smile and such a pleasant attitude to everyone that he met. Hap was an active member of the Baptist Church in Decorah and also helped teach Sunday School. He was a member of the Living Hope Baptist Church in Ossian, IA.

Hap is survived by his two sons: David (Rebecca) Halverson, Decorah, IA and Herbert Halverson, Waterloo, IA. Four daughters: Marian Burris, Tulsa, OK; Holly Helen Ice, Austin, TX; Yvonne (John) Serocki, Del Mar, CA and Jeanette Stark, Davenport, IA, along with fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. One brother: Donald (June) Halvorson, Decorah, IA, along with many nieces and nephews.

Orlando “Hap” was preceded in death by his parents: Hans and Mabel (Rustad) Halvorson. His wife: Olga Halverson on Feb. 24, 2008. Three sisters: Margaret (Virgil) Stortz, Ruth (Raphael) Strub, and Edna (Vince) Strub, One son-in-law: Bryan Ice. One nephew: Charles Halvorson.
