John Yarwood, Former Resident Dies
A former Decorah man, John R. Yarwood, died July 22 at the Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis. He was 26 and had been ill three months. Mr. Yarwood, a native of Decorah had lived in Indianapolis for five years and until his illness had been employed as the manager of the Long John Silver Restaurant in Carmel, Ind.
He was a member of the Lawrence United Methodist Church and had served in the United States army in Vietnam.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 24 in Indianapolis with burial in Washington Park East Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Flanner-Buchanan-Shadeland mortuary.
John Yarwood is survived by his wife, Sandra; his father, Earl S. Yarwood of Indianapolis; his mother, Gertrude Yarwood of Decorah; his grandmother, Mrs. Sophia Livingood, Gunder, Ia.; a sister, Mrs. Joan Earline Thomas of Decorah and two brothers, Clinton Yarwood, Sr., Broken Arrow, Okla. and Glenn Martin Yarwood of Greenfield, Ind.
Mr. Yarwood was born December 21, 1949 in Decorah and was a graduate of Decorah Senior High School.
Either a Postville Herald or Decorah Journal newspaper clipping, hand dated 1976, from my mother's obituary collection.
John Yarwood was also survived by an aunt, Mrs. Glen (Dorothy) Schave and a deceased aunt, Mrs. Lawrence (Olga) Krambeer. And many nieces and nephews.
