Emma Marie Koenig

Emma Marie Koenig, 86, died at her home in rural Castalia, April 23.

Emma Koenig was born March 12, 1893 in Grand Meadow Township in Clayton County, the daughter of John and Martha (Brandt) Schroeder. She was a life-long member of St. Paul Church of Postville, in which she was both baptized and confirmed.

She married William C. Koenig September 10, 1918 and to this union two sons Orville and Merlin, and three daughters, Charlotte, Chrystal and Marian were born. The family farmed in the rural Castalia area. William Koenig died February 4, 1972.

She is survived by: two sons, Orville of Castalia and Merlin of Decorah; three daughters: Mrs. Rueben (Charlotte) Henning of Decorah; Mrs. Judd (Chrystal) Longerbeam of Cedar Rapids; and Mrs. Ray (Marian) Shafer of Waukon; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Arndt of Nora Springs and Mrs. Selma Nuehring of Portland; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her husband; two brothers, Herbert Schroeder and Louis Brandt; three sisters; Mrs. Walter (Elsie) Schultz, Mrs. Edward (Florence) Preuss; and Mrs. Claude (Ruth) Weaber; and two grandsons.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 26 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. The Rev. Norris C. Swenson officiated.

Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia. Schutte funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
