John Edward Wangsness, 77, of Allison, passed away Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family. As were his wishes, he will be cremated. A memorial service is at Calmar Lutheran Church, Calmar, Friday, Oct. 24, starting at 11 am. There also is a memorial gathering at St. James Lutheran Church (fellowship hall) in Allison, Saturday, Oct. 25, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

John Edward Wangsness was born June 19, 1937, to John and Johannah (Strand) Wangsness on their farm in Calmar. He married Sharon Elizabeth (Forari) Wangsness in Rock Island, Ill., Dec. 1, 1973. He worked as a truck driver for many years, and also drove a shuttle van for the local nursing home prior to his illness. He was a member of the Council of Safety Management with the Iowa Motor Trucking Association; and he enjoyed barbershop music, gardening, horses and watching old western shows and movies. In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be made in John’s name to Cedar Valley Hospice. Online condolences may be directed to the family at iowacremation.com under “obituaries.”

John is survived by his wife, Sharon Wangsness of Allison; children: June (Randy) Reimers of Walcott, Joy (Gary) Reeves of Surprise, Ariz., Jeff (Shelley) Wangsness of Ankeny, Jennifer (Reth) Stollberg of Quincy, Ill. and stepson Doug (Angela) Forari of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jay; a brother, Willis; and sisters Maxine and Virginia.
