Robert W. Allen

Services were held Wednesday, August 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church, Decorah for Robert W. Allen of Decorah, who died Monday, August 20 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital, Decorah following a lingering illness. The Rev. Paul H. Christenson officiated.

Born July 16, 1921, in Winneshiek County, the son of Richard Ray and Mary Allen, he attended the Castalia public school. November 8, 1942, he was married to Opal Jones at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He had been employed by Peter Johnson and Sons at Decorah for 28 years.

A lifelong resident of Winneshiek County, he was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Decorah and of the Decorah VFW Lodge, having served in World War II, and had been a member of the Decorah Fire Department for 23 years serving as chief and assistant chief.

He is survived by his wife; daughters Cheryl of Madison, Wisconsin; Dianne of Marshall, Wisconsin; Mrs. Bruce (Lynne) Meyer of Decorah and a son Randall Allen at home, and two grandchildren, Tami Lynn and Dawn Marie.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother Richard Allen.

Burial was in the Bloomfield Cemetery at Castalia.
