Miles Ames
Funeral services for Miles Ames were held Monday, March 27, 1989, 1:30 p.m. in the United Methodist Church, Castalia. Verdon Swenson, Pastor, officiated. Schutte Funeral Service, Postville, was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the West Union Cemetery, West Union.
Miles Calvin Ames, son of Absalom and Mary Shield Ames, was born March 20, 1901 in Wisconsin. He died Friday, March 24, 1989 in Community Memorial Hospital, Postville.
He attended the rural schools near his home. On December 28, 1927 he married Esther Rich. The couple had 2 daughters, Doris Mae, who died in infancy, and Linda. On November 12, 1946 he married Iva Mae Burns Stendel at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. They farmed in the Castalia area.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Castalia, the Bloomfield Historical Society and the Senior Citizens organization.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther, who died in 1944; his parents; a daughter, Doris Mae Ames, who died in infancy; 6 brothers, Charles, Floyd, Amos, Veranus, Austin and Orrin and 5 sisters, Jane Pleasy, Mae Louise Jones, Tressa Martha Koth, Iva Snitker and Agnes Wolter.
Surviving are his wife, Iva Mae, a daughter, Linda and her husband, Ray Norton, Cedar Rapids; a stepson, Earl Stendel and his wife, Arlene, Castalia; a stepdaughter, Darlene and her husband, Spencer Graves, Decorah; 2 grandchildren, Doyle and Jackie Stoll; 6 step-grandchildren, Randall Graves, Nancy Cronin, Scott Stendel, Pam Buddenberg, Karla Stendel and Kim Paul; 2 great grandchildren, Myssa and Kyle Stoll; 4 step-great-grandchildren, Dawn and Dana Stendel, and Brittany and Bridget Buddenberg; and a sister, Alice Dull of Monona and many nieces and nephews.
Casket bearers: Bill Buddenberg, Virgil Reckward, William Ohloff, Henry Monroe, Jr., Ronald Ehler, Charles Linderbaum, Keith Bodensteiner and Jerry Monroe.
