Lilly A. Haugen, 84, of Decorah, died Feb. 11, 1990, at the Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis., following a brief illness.
Funeral services are Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 11 a.m. at Decorah Lutheran Church, with Pastors James M. Glesne and John V. Halvorson officiating. Organist is Diane Kvamme and soloist is Peggy Burnside, singing "Amazing Grace." The congregational hymns are "Beautiful Saviour" and "Abide With Me."
Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah is in charge of arrangements and visitation is today (Tuesday) beginning at 4 p.m. at the funeral home, and continues Wednesday one hour before services at the church. Burial will be at the Lutheran Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Clayton Lee Haugen II, Daniel Haugen, Gary Haugen, Jeffrey Haugen, Kenneth Haugen Jr., and Mark Haugen. Honorary pallbearers are Gary and Diane Graves, Ed and Sheryl Haats, Duane and Judy McIntosh, Mel and Nancy Macal, and Mervin and Maxine Zilk.
She was born Oct. 1, 1905 at Le Roy, Minn., the daughter of Ole and Bertine (Nelson) Moe. She attended schools in Le Roy, and married Edgard O. Haugen July 26, 1923, at home, he died Jan. 8, 1981.
She moved to Decorah in 1921, where she worked at the Winneshiek Hotel for many years. She and her husband farmed in the Glenwood area and ran the Haugen's Maid-Rite Cafe until 1969 when they retired.
She is survived by eight sons, Roger at Charlottesville, Va., Gerald of Decorah, Curtis of Bensenville, Ill., H. Ronald of Wood Dale, Ill., O. Kenneth of Dubuque, and Clayton, Dale and Roy, all of Belvidere, Ill.; 31 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Ray; one daughter, Delores; six brothers and five sisters.
