Evelyn Hanson, 75, of rural Hesper, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 23 at the Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper with Rev. Hans Floan officiating.
Burial will be in the Hesper Lutheran Cemetery.
Mengis Funeral Home of Mabel is handling arrangements.
Evelyn J. Hanson was born Jan. 27, 1926 on a farm in Preble Township, Fillmore County, Minn., to Carl and Palma (Tengesdal) Aasum.
She was baptized and confirmed at the Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper.
She graduated from the Mabel High School in 1944, and married Merlin Hanson Sept. 17, 1960 at the Burr Oak Lutheran Church, Burr Oak.
They farmed on a dairy farm west of Hesper for almost 40 years.
Merlin Hanson passed away May 1999.
Evelyn Hanson had been a resident at the Aase Haugen Home since July 2001.
She was a member of the Hesper Lutheran Church, was a former president and treasurer of its WELCA, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Bits & Pieces Quilt Club and the Mabel Alumni Association.
She also served on the board for the Depot Outlet in Decorah and the church lunch stand committee.
Evelyn Hanson enjoyed bowling, quilting and gardening.
Survivors include her son, Davis (Brenda) Hanson of Hesper; two daughters, Martha (Scott) Svenson of Hiawatha and Joyce (Philip) Richert of Hesper; eight grandchildren; and brothers and sisters-in-law Kenneth Hanson, Arlin and Virginia Hanson, Bud and Roselyn Quam and Willard and Verna Hanson.
Evelyn J. Hanson was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin Hanson; her parents and a sister-in-law, Helen Hanson.Source: Decorah Journal, November 22 2001
