Albert J. Haugen, 83, of Decorah, died of an apparent heart attack Dec. 27, 1986 at the Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 31 at 1:30 p.m. at the Hauge Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Gerhard Brase officiating. Organist was Alan Sensor. Burial was at the church cemetery, with Sensor-French Funeral Home of Decorah in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Stanton Erickson, Chris Haugen, Raymond Haugen, Orville Haugen, Vernon Vine and Merlin Hanson. Honorary pallbearers were Emma Simonson, Sylvia Mathys,Jessie Wepler, Raymond and Amanda Thomann, Kyrre and Amanda Swenson, Clifford and Gladys Vine, Glen and Kathleen Larson, Truman and Eunice Kirkeby and the Decorah Senior Citizens.
Albert Julius Haugen was born June 7, 1903, in Canoe Township, a son of Ole A.P. and Karen (Talhaug) Haugen. He attended rural schools and married the former Gladys Johnson Dec. 28, 1938, in Nashua, Iowa. She preceded him in death July 13, 1985.
Mr. Haugen operated the Blue Bird Smoke Shop in Decorah and a restaurant in Lime Springs. He held various jobs in Long Beach, Calif. before returning to Decorah in 1973. He was a member of Hauge Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway and Senior Citizens.
Survivors include one brother, Arnold of Decorah, and three sisters, Bessie Johnson of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Florence Henning and Clara Lau, both of Milwaukee, Wis.
