Mrs. Velma Hanson of Decorah, life-long resident and a former school teacher, died December 25 at the Retirement Center at the age of 72.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28 at Hauge Lutheran Church with the Rev. D.D. Thogerson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Wayne Hanson, David Hanson, Randy Hanson, Greg Hanson, Robert Van Gorp and Keith Elsbernd. Mrs. D.D. Thogerson was organist, and hymns were sung by the Congregation. Funeral arrangements were made by Steine Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hanson is survived by four sons, Kenneth and Arlin Hanson of Decorah, Merlin Hanson, Mabel, Minn. and Williard Hanson of Decorah; one daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Roselyn) Quam, Decorah; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd Roney, Decorah and Wallace Roney of Rochester, Minn. and five sisters, Mrs. Chester Green,Postville, Mrs. Conrad Vick, Mabel, Minn. and Mrs. Elsie Yarwood, Mrs. Earl McLain and Mrs. Ethel Martinson, all of Decorah.
As Velma R. Roney, Mrs. Hanson was born August 11, 1904 in Decorah, the daughter of Frank and Maggie Roney. She attended Decorah Public Schools, Valdors Business College and college at Cedar Falls and taught school for several years.
She was married June 3, 1925 to Bennie H. Hanson at the Decorah Methodist Parsonage. Her husband died September 3, 1965, and she also was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Hanson was a member of Hauge Lutheran Church.
