Eugene W. Bakken, of Lancaster, Calif., passed away at home April 8, 2014, of cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. Burial is later this summer at the Decorah Lutheran Cemetery.

Gene was orphaned at the age of 10 and spent several years at the Lutheran Orphange in Waverly. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Air Force. After his discharge he returned to Iowa, where he met and married his wife, Ladonna. In Nov. of 1963 the family moved to Lancaster, Calif., and Eugene worked in civil service at Edwards Air Force Base for 25 years. Upon retirement, he restored classic cars and became a member of the Screen Actors Guild, appearing in several movies and commercials. His main love was helping his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Ladonna; sons, Randall (Sally) and Eric Bakken; daughter, Tamara Holder; grandsons: Sean Bakken, Ryan (Crystal) Holder and Kyler Holder; sisters: Morene (Robert) Koehler, Phyllis (James) Goodman, Wanda Lawthers and Betty Ann (John) Bodine; and numerous friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy and his son, Dale.

He was much loved and will be greatly missed. He always will be in our hearts.
