Raymond Fadness, age 85, of Decorah, IA, died early Thursday morning, May 15, 2014, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, IA.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at the Hauge Lutheran Church, 3147 Middle Hesper Road, rural Decorah, with Rev. Gene Hermeier presiding.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., on Monday, May 19, 2014, at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, IA, and also after 9:30 a.m. at the church on Tuesday.

Raymond Milford Fadness was born on April 30, 1928, the son of Erick and Anna (Swenson) Fadness on the family farm north of Decorah, Ray attended school at the Canoe Ridge #2 rural country school and Decorah High School. After schooling, Ray worked on the family farm. He entered the US Army, serving in Germany from 1950-52, during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Arlene Yarwood on August 12, 1956, at the Methodist Church in Decorah. He worked as a trucker driver for NeHi Bottling Company, Polly Meadows Milk Company and Bolson Feeds He later worked in the K & S Meat Department, and as a Campus Security at Luther College. From 1971 through 1984, he worked as an Emergency Medical Technician for Winneshiek County Hospital. He also worked various part-time jobs until he retired at the age of 74. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and camping. Ray always was very personable, enjoyed keeping busy and had a lot of spunk. He was a jokester and always had a “twinkle in his eye”. Ray was a lifelong member of the Hauge Lutheran Church and also of the First Lutheran Church in Decorah.

Ray is survived by his wife: Arlene Fadness, Decorah, IA. Three children: Roger Fadness, Waynesboro, PA; Ruth (Rick) Jones, Onalaska, WI; and Ron (Marcy) Fadness, Decorah, IA. Seven grandchildren: Luke (Mercede) Fadness, Brooke Fadness, Teagan Fadness, Hannah (Dave) Edwards, Katherine (Travis) Heidelberg, Laurel Fadness and Erick Fadness. Three great grandchildren: Elijah & Ezekiel Fadness and Holden Edwards. One sister-in-law: Belva Fadness, Decorah, IA. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Dean (Elaine) Yarwood, Columbia, MO; Curtis (Phyllis) Yarwood, Colorado Springs, CO; and Maxine Yarwood, Decorah, IA, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents: Erick and Anna (Swenson) Fadness. Two brothers: Harold Fadness and Norris (Virginia) Fadness. Two sisters: Esther Fadness and Arleen (Milton) Young. His father and mother-in-law: Harold and Elsie Yarwood. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Chuck Yarwood, Arla (Roy) Nesheim and LuVerne (Howard) Johnson.
