Jim, age 76, died unexpectedly Monday, November 19, 2012 at his home from complications of prostate cancer. A visitation will be held Friday, November 23rd at 2:30 p.m., with the funeral service at 3:30 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 3700 Cottage Grove, Des Moines. His ashes will be interred in the Grace Memorial Garden at a later date.

He was born in Decorah, IA on March 22, 1936 to Frances and Raymond Hamilton. He spent most of his youth and graduated from Jefferson High School. Jim was a graduate of the University of Iowa, class of 1960 after serving his country honorably during the Korean War in the US Army. He worked for the Iowa Dept of Revenue, retiring after 30 years of service. He married Jane Carey on January 2, 2003.

Jim was a member of Grace UM Church for nearly 50 years, a faithful usher and was a long-time member of the Neighbors Sunday School class. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, reading three newspapers daily, following his beloved Hawkeyes, and working crossword puzzles. Jim was a member of Esquire Toastmasters more than 40 years.

Survivors include his wife, Jane; sons, Tom (Kathy)and their son, Nick of Clive, Bill and his children, Becky, Mandy and Joey of Des Moines; Jane's children, Scott (Cindy) Green and their children Emily and Rachel, of Boulder, CO and Julie Green (Clay Lohman) of Corvallis, OR. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barb.
