Geraldine “Gerry” Broghamer, age 84, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Gundersen Health Systems in LaCrosse, WI.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church at 307 West Main St. Rev. Phil Gibbs officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

There will be no visitation; the family will greet friends after the mass. Arrangements are being handled by the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah.

Geraldine Luticia “Gerry” (Truman) Broghamer was born on August 15, 1929, the daughter of Ivan and Leona (Knox) Truman in Canton, Minnesota. Gerry graduated from Canton High School in 1947 and attended Winona State Teacher’s College, in Winona, MN. She was united in marriage to Morand Broghamer on September 11, 1948, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Together they operated a dairy farm north of Decorah in the Canoe Ridge area, until they retired in 1988. After they moved into Decorah Gerry worked for the Northland Agency on Aging as an Outreach Worker, until June 2013. Gerry was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, where she was an active. Gerry was a busy lady, who enjoyed watching her daughter participate in music and dance; and was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching her sons participate and coach sports, such as basketball, baseball and football. Gerry was always a strong and supportive person who always had a sense of humor. She loved her three children dearly and always put them ahead of herself. Gerry called them every day to tell them how much she loved them.

Gerry’s survivors include her three children: Mary Hansen, Cedar Rapids, IA, Scott (Kari) Broghamer, Iowa City, IA and Bill Broghamer, Pasadena, CA. Four grandchildren: Joshua Broghamer, Phoenix, AZ, Jenna Broghamer, New York City, NY, Cody Broghamer, Phoenix, AZ & Chelsea Broghamer, Rhode Island. One brother: Tom (Carol) Truman, Canton, MN. Two sisters: Marge Muchich, Jackson, MI, and Gayleen Sullivan, Independence, KS. Sisters-in-law: Marie Broghamer, Decorah, IA, and JoAnne Truman, St. Paul, MN. Brother-in-law: Ralph Bartels, Houston, TX, along with several loving nieces and nephews.

Gerry was preceded in death by her parents: Ivan and Leona (Knox) Truman. Her husband: Morand Broghamer on January 28, 2007. One son-in-law: Gary Hansen. Her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Edward and Agnes Broghamer. One brother: Bill Truman. Three sisters: Wanda Bartels, Anna Marie Truman and Mary Jean Tummel. Four brothers-in-law: Dr. Ralph Muchich, Frank Shelton, Marcellus Broghamer and John Sullivan. One niece: Tearza Broghamer. One nephew: Jeff Truman
