Gladys C. Aarhus, 75, of 1209 16th Street southwest in Cedar Rapids and formerly of Decorah died Friday evening, March 18 at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids after a brief illness. She lived in Cedar Rapids 40 years.
Mrs. Aarhus was born Feb. 29, 1908 in Decorah to Theodore C. and Ellen O. (Erickson) Narveson. She married Bernard Aarhus Nov. 23, 1935 at Waterloo. Her husband died July 8, 1961.
Mrs. Aarhus was a registered nurse and had been employed in the premature nursery at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids for more than 20 years.
She was a charter member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services are being conducted there this morning (Tuesday, March 22) at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Gary N. Boe. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Turner Chapel West is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Aarhus is survived by three sons, Gwyneth K. Aarhus of Cedar Rapids, B. DuWayne Aarhus of rural Walker, Ia., and Collin V. Aarhus of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Eunice Kirkeby and Glorianne Wicks, both of Decorah, 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
If memorials are given, the family requests they be directed to St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Meadowbrook Drive and 31st Street Southeast, Cedar Rapids, 52403 or the Springwater Cemetery Fund in Winneshiek County.
