Minerva “Mimi” Pauline Aaker passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on Saturday evening, March 15, 2014 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, Iowa.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Decorah Lutheran Church with Rev. Bryan Robertson and Rev. Dave Sorenson officiating. A Private Family Inurnment will be held at a later date at Holden Lutheran Cemetery in Kenyon, MN.

Visitation begins on Saturday at 10:00 A.M., one hour before the service, at Decorah Lutheran Church.

A LIFE WELL LIVED

Mimi was born June 29, 1918 in Wanamingo, Minnesota to Nels and Emma (Satren) Fredrickson. She was baptized and confirmed at Minneola Lutheran Church and was a graduate of Wanamingo High School, and Red Wing Teacher Training School. She taught grades one through seven in a one room school house in the Kenyon /Frontenac area.

In 1940 she married Maynard E. Aaker. During their 70 year marriage they resided in Cannon Falls, Minnesota, Kenyon, Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Madison, Wisconsin, Decorah, Iowa, and wintered in Sun City, Arizona.

Mimi is remembered for her caring spirit impacting and touching many lives in her church and community. Friends and family will always think of Mimi as the gracious, classy, little lady who had style and grace and made everyone feel welcomed in her home. Her children and grandchildren loved looking forward to seeing and spending time with her, and will always remember her very special “Grandma cookies”.

Mimi instilled in all her family her strong Christian values, faith and love. She will be truly missed, but her memory will remain in our hearts forever.

She is preceded in death by her husband Maynard on March 16, 2011, two brothers, Ray and Norrie Fredrickson, and a grandchild, Bradley Chellevold who died in infancy.

Mimi is survived by her four loving daughters and their husbands: Kathleen (Carl) Casperson, Minneapolis, MN, Karen (Larry) Chellevold, Tucson, AZ, Ann (Bob) Naslund, Decorah, and Linda (Curt) Ritland, Tempe, AZ; ten grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.

The family asks that any memorials may be designated to: The Maynard and Minerva Aaker Family Scholarship at Luther College, Decorah Lutheran Church or the Aase Haugen Home Auxiliary.
