Ronald Frye dies in traffic accident
Funeral services for Ronald D. Frye, who was killed in a car-pedestrian accident Dec. 9, were held Saturday, Dec. 12 at 1 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Pastor Paul Christenson conducted final rites, and organist Greg Peterson accompanied congregational singing.
Burial was in the Lutheran Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Lester Erickson Jr., Thomas Erickson, David Fadness, John Grinna, Allen Dale Lien and Howard Sande. Steine Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Ronald Frye, 39, of R6, Decorah had lived most of his life in Decorah and was employed as a locksmith. He was born Dec. 29, 1941 to Clem and Olive (Erickson) Frye and attended Decorah Public Schools.
On Aug. 28, 1967 he married Janet Vick in ceremonies at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife; his parents; one sister, Marilyn Thornton of Minneapolis, Minn.; seven nephews, six nieces and one great nephew.
The accident happened Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 9:20 p.m. six miles north of Decorah on Highway 52.
The Sheriff's Department investigated and reported that Mr. Frye was a passenger in a semi-truck which had slid off a farm driveway into the ditch. Frye was walking on the roadway back to the truck after helping get the semi out when he was hit by a southbound car driven by Garry Lee Elliott, 32, of R3, Decorah.
Frye was pronounced dead on arrival at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital.
No charges were filed in the accident.
This marks the third traffic fatality in Winneshiek County this year.
