Orland "Bud" Spencer Quandahl was born May 19, 1927, in Burr Oak Township of Winneshiek County. He was the son of Clifford and Ida (Ellingson) Quandahl and the brother of Lola and Joan. He was baptized July 3, 1927, at the Hauge Lutheran Church and later confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Decorah.

He attended school in Winneshiek County. Bud joined the United States Navy when he was 17 and served in the Pacific Fleet during World War II from 1944-46. On Sept. 28, 1952, Orland was united in marriage with Sylvia Hovey at Orleans Lutheran Church. They farmed with Sylvia's parents, Orville and Bertha Hovey, for many years.

They raised six children on the family farm -- Ruth, Arlan, Dean, Carolyn, Paul and Joel. Dean joined his father on the farm, where they raised Brown Swiss dairy cattle and crop farmed. After deciding to quit the dairy operation, Bud and Dean continued to crop farm together. Bud also worked at Dahly Chevrolet the past 10 years.

Bud enjoyed his family, spare time and vacations, and his horses. He was active in the Orleans Lutheran Church, having served multiple council terms. He supported his children in 4-H and belonged to and was very active in the Cresco Saddle Club. He also enjoyed time with his wife, Sylvia. They would take sleigh rides in the winter, buggy rides in the summer and visited their children.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia; his six children and their families, Ruth Quandahl-Hendricks and husband Mike Hendricks of Prairie du Chien, Wis., Arland Quandahl and wife Jane Scott-Quandahl and their daughters Paige and Haley of Talbott, Tenn., Dean and Linda Quandahl and their daughters Carmen, Krista and Kendal of Cresco, Carolyn and Charles Quale and their son Christopher of Adams, Minn., Paul and Sue Quandahl and their son Lyle of Elgin, Ill., and Joel and Lisa Quandahl of Decorah; and his two sisters, Lola, Mrs. Mahlon Borseth of Cedar Rapids, and Joan, Mrs. Charles Steffes of Marion. Many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

Orland "Bud" Quandahl was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Ida Quandahl.
