Dennis Alan Hovey, 35, of Decorah, died at his home Thursday, Nov. 7, 1996.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, with the Revs. Steven M. Jacobsen and Thomas Miller officiating. The Rev. Marion Miller was the organist. Vocalists were Steve Casterton and Paul Casterton.

Casket bearers were Don Rude, Jim Lang, Mike Blaess, Jerry Frey, Rob Sweet, Carsten Quam, Kevin Barth, Greg Mitchell, Billy Frey, Trent Skillings, Kevin Anderson and Shaun Hoyme. Interment was at the Union Prairie Cemetery. The French and Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Dennis was born April 19,1961, the son of Walter and Lois (Erickson) Hovey. He was baptized May 28, 1961 and confirmed May 1, 1977, at First Lutheran Church. He lived in Decorah all his life, attending Decorah Schools and graduating from Decorah High School in 1980. He was married to Kristi Frey for 10 years.

Dennis worked for the city of Decorah Street Department as a maintenance worker and was a member of First Lutheran Church. He raced cars for many years, most recently in the stock car class in Decorah. He enjoyed boating, motorcycling and his children.

Survivors include his father, Walter Hovey of Decorah; children Travis Carolan, Troy Hovey and Ashley Hovey, all of Decorah; brothers Tom Hovey and Bruce Hovey of Decorah; sisters Julie Hovey of Bonduel, Wis., and Janet Hovey of Decorah; and his grandmother, Lenna Erickson.

Dennis Hovey was preceded in death by his grandparents Tom and Johanna Hovey, and Earl Erickson; and his mother, Lois.
