Funeral services are today (Tuesday, Feb. 26, 1991) for Lois M. Hovey, 59, of Decorah.

Mrs. Hovey died Feb. 23 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital.

Pastor Glenn Kappelmann will conduct the services at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Decorah. Organist is Mark Baumann and soloist is Steve Casterton, singing "How Great Thou Art." The congregation will sing "Amazing Grace" and "Rock of Ages."

Fjelstul Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation was Monday after 3 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour before the services at the church. Burial is in the Union Cemetery, with the following serving as pallbearers: Mark Erickson, Gary Bjerke, Steven Bjerke, David Bjerke, Brian Bjerke and Eric Bjerke, all nephews of the deceased.

Lois Erickson was born May 23, 1931, in Canoe Township, Winneshiek County, the daughter of Earl and Lenna (Young) Erickson. She was baptized at Decorah Lutheran Church, and was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church. She graduated from Decorah High School in 1948, and married Walter M. Hovey Oct. 11, 1953, at St. John's Lutheran Church. She joined First Lutheran Church in Decorah in April, 1954.

The Hoveys became parents of five children.

Mrs. Hovey had been a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell in Decorah for several years before her marriage. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, and was in church circles, ladies aid, ALCW, and the September Circle. She was a avid bowler, and bowled in the Red Smock and Viking Bowling Leagues in Decorah. She was a member of the Elks Lodge and Kilties Marathon Card group.

She is survived by her mother, Lenna Erickson of Decorah; her husband, Walt of Decorah; five children, Julie Hovey of Bonduel, Wis., Janet Hovey of Decorah, Thomas and his wife Joanne of Decorah, Bruce and his wife Lori of Decorah and Dennis and his wife Kristi of Decorah; five grandchildren, Heather, Jason, Travis, Troy and Ashley; one brother, Roger and his wife Elaine Erickson of Marion; and a sister, Marlys and her husband Marland Bjerke of Spring Grove, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her father.
