Grace G. Rasmussen, 85, of Decorah, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002 at the Barthell Eastern Star Home in Decorah following a long, heroic battle with arthritis and other complications.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. at Decorah Lutheran Church with Rev. James Glesne, Rev. Brian Robertson and Rev. Ole Winter officiating.

Organist was Kathy Murray, and hymns included "How Great Thou Art" and "What A Friend We Have in Jesus."

Casketbearers were Tony Vick, Bill Spilde, Brian Sturtz, Michael Sturtz, Terry Sturtz and Alan Rasmussen.

Interment was in the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah, and Schluter-Balik Funeral Home of Decorah handled arrangements.

Grace Geneva Rasmussen was born July 2, 1917 to Harry and Clara (Ellis) Erickson of Decorah.

She was baptized and confirmed at the Decorah Lutheran Church, and attended Decorah Community Schools and graduated from the Decorah High School in 1935.

After graduation, she worked for a period of time as secretary at Luther College.

March 20, 1937, she married Ray Rasmussen of Decorah and they engaged in farming.

During the 1950's and 60's Grace Rasmussen served as secretary/treasurer for the Springwater Lutheran Church.

In the 60s she was employed for eight years as a travel agent for Minowa Tour and Travel of Decorah.

In 1978 after their farm sale, they moved to Decorah to retire from farm work, but continued to be active helping out many people with various tasks about the community.

Grace Rasmussen was a life-long dedicated member of the Decorah Lutheran Church and was always willing and available to serve on various committees and circles.

Grace and Ray Rasmussen were also empoyed by the Decorah Lutheran Church in the housekeeping department for a number of years after their retirement from the farm.

In 1997, Grace Rasmussen went to a nursing home after she suffered a fall, fracturing her hip.

Survivors include her husband, Ray Rasmussen; one son: Ron (Rosemary) Rasmussen of Decorah and one daughter: Rose (Ken) Beardmore of Waukon; five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Grace G. Rasmussen was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Hubert Erickson.
