Evelyn L. Hahn, age 93, of Decorah, IA, died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Barthell O.E.S. Home in Decorah.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah with Rev. Chad Huebner officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah.

Visitation will be on Tuesday one hour before the service at First Lutheran Church.

Evelyn Laverne (Erickson) Hahn was born on March 24, 1919 at home in Canoe Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa, the daughter of Olias and Clara (Iverson) Erickson. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Decorah. Evelyn attended Springwater Country School.

Evelyn was united in marriage to Howard H. Hahn, the son of Edward and Mary E. Hahn, in Bethany, MO on June 14, 1940. They had three children: John Edward Hahn, Christine Marie Downey and Eric Howard Hahn.

Evelyn met the love of her life, Howard “Whitey” Hahn at Green Parrot Tea Room in Decorah, IA. After their marriage, they moved to Los Angeles, CA. They both worked at the shipyards in San Pedro, CA during World War II. Then Whitey started his own business, La Brea Radiator Shop, where Evelyn took over the job of bookkeeper. Over the years they lived in Rolling Hills, CA and Solvang, CA. Whitey died June 21, 1989 in Solvang. Evelyn then moved back and made her home in Decorah, to be near her brothers and sisters.

Evelyn loved to travel and also entertain. She and Whitey traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, Norway, France, Italy and Mexico. Her home on Ridge Road in Decorah was always open to company; she enjoyed having guests stop by and was always ready with coffee and cookies.

She became a resident of the Barthell O.E.S. Home in Decorah in May 2009.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Whitey; her son John in August 2006; three sisters: Olive Frye, Violet Winger and Alice Tollefson; four brothers: Earl, Lester, Maurice and Robert Erickson; and several nieces and nephews.

Evelyn is survived by two children: Christine Harper Downey (Roy) of Newhall, CA and Eric Hahn of Greeley, CO; four granddaughters: Camie Cornes (Joe), Carol Hahn, Carrie Hahn and Tracey Hahn; and three great-grandchildren: Ashlyn, Kyle and Aaron; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Barthell Order of Eastern Star Home and their whole staff for the excellent care given to Evelyn.
