Lester Wallace Erickson Sr., 86, of Decorah, died Thursday, Sept. 24, 1998, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah after a long illness.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 28, at 1 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, with the Revs. Thomas Miller and Arland Braaten-Lee officiating.

The Rev. Marion Miller was the organist.

Casket bearers were Alan Dehning, Daryl Dehning, Lowell Dehning, Randy Stortz, Ron Dehning and Howard Sande.

Interment was at the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. The French & Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Lester was born Sept. 15, 1912, in Canoe Township of Winneshiek County, the son of Olias and Clara M. (Iverson) Erickson. He attended school in the Decorah area.

Lester was united in marriage with Mabel Thompson in Osage in 1939. They farmed in the Decorah area. To this union, two sons were born.

Survivors include two sons, Lester Jr. and Thomas, both of Decorah; 11 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; his sisters, Olive Frye of Minneapolis, Minn., and Violet Winger, Evelyn Hahn and Alice Tollefson, all of Decorah.

Leser Erickson Sr. was preceded in death by his parents and his wife,Mabel, who died July 25, 1986.
