Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Anna Bender, 80, of Canoe Township, who died Friday, Nov. 29, at Decorah Hospital, were held Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Locust.
Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery. The Rev. Glenn I. Vanderbilt officiated at the services and Steine Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Winfield Bender, Virgil Bender, Lloyd Dehning, Harold Dehning, Donald Stoskopf and Henry Burmeister. Music was by Mrs. Glenn Vanderbilt, organist, with a duet by Mr. and Mrs. Erlin Stoskopf.
On the floral committee were Mrs. Winfield Bender, Mrs. Virgil Bender, Mrs. Mabel Dehning and Mrs. Emil Bigalk.
Mrs. Bender was born Bertha Anna Dehning on March 18, 1877, in Dorchester, IA, the daughter of Peter and Margaret Dehning. She was educated in rural schools and married Peter Bender at Locust on April 7, 1898. He died in 1908 and in 1910 she married George Falck, who died in 1918.
Survivors include four children, Vernon J. Bender of Decorah, Mrs. Harry Brooks of Cresco, Mrs. Clarence Weber of Milwaukee, Alvin Falck of Mabel and Arlin Falck of Decorah, and a foster daughter, Pearl Beck of Peoria, Ill.
Other survivors are eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Charles Kubitz of New Albin, Iowa. Preceding her in death were a daughter, Mrs. John Roney, and three brothers and four sisters.
