Robert was born September 14, 1929 in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Claude and Bessie (Falck) Bronner. Robert served in the US Army, fighting in the Korean War from July 1952 to July 1953. He was an infantry rifleman with the 2nd Division, 23rd Infantry Regiment, Fox Company and was involved in battles on Old Baldy, Arrowhead Ridge, T-Bone Hill, Three Sisters and the Chowan Valley, among others. Robert married Margaret Wilson in 1957 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco. Early in his life he farmed, worked for ADS tiling and was a janitor at the Junior and Senior High Schools in Cresco. He worked in the Maintenance Department at Sara Lee in New Hampton from 1972 until he retired in 1994. The family enjoyed all the Sara Lee treats he would bring home from work. In his spare time Robert enjoyed eating at Sue-Z-Q’s, fishing, dancing, pheasant hunting, driving around NE Iowa and SE Minnesota looking at the crops and scenery and spending time with his grandchildren. The last six months he was a resident at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake. Robert is survived by his wife Margaret of Cresco; six children: Steven Bronner of Chandler, Arizona, Kim (Lori) Bronner of Cresco, Gloria (Steve Koble) Atkinson of Clear Lake, Neil (and Kenda Gullickson of Ridgeway, Wisconsin) Bronner of Cresco, Loren (Cheryl) Bronner of Cresco, Paul (Rhonda) Bronner of Ridgeway; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Nathan and Erica Bronner, Jennifer (Ty) Burke, and their children Maverick and Emerson, Ashley (Ryan) Chizek, Alexis and Ryan Atkinson, Marissa, Cole and Kyle Bronner; six siblings: Margaret Callahan of Cresco, Doris Heimerdinger of New Hampton, Shirley (Al) Skoda of Cresco, Claudette (George) Cable of Cedar Falls, Joyce Kach of Hiawatha, Iowa, Bonnie (Jerome) Samec of Manley; and a sister-in-law, Edna Bronner of Cresco. Robert is preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Allyson Haley Brannon (daughter of Neil Bronner); a brother, Chuck Bronner; and two brothers-in-law: Bill Callahan and Merlin Heimerdinger.
