Carrol Solum, 63, of Calmar and formerly of Decorah, died Saturday, March 30, 2002 at his home.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 2 at 11 a.m. at Glenwood Lutheran Church in Decorah with Rev. Susan Debner officiating.
Organist was Laurie Biedermann.
Casketbearers were members of the Helof-Holm Post #1977, Bernatz-Symonds American Legion Post #163 and Hamre-Giesen Disabled American Vet. Post #8.
Honorary casketbearers were all of Carrol Solum's friends.
Interment was in the Glenwood East Cemetery in rural Decorah, and Schluter-Balik Funeral Home of Decorah handled arrangements.
Carrol Gordon Solum was born July 26, 1938, the son of Hans and Esther (Guttormson) Solum west of Decorah.
He was baptized August 21, 1938 and confirmed on May 17, 1953 at the Madison Lutheran Church.
Carrol Solum attended country school and graduated from Decorah High School in 1957.
He served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1961-1963, and married LuAnn Flatland June 27, 1964 at Glenwood Lutheran Church.
Carrol Solum worked various jobs in Decorah and most recently at Usgaard and Smith.
Survivors include his daughter, Kim (Steve) Kuhn of Fort Atkinson; three grandchilden; two brothers, Vernon (Joan) Solum of Dresbach, Minn., and David (Carol Ann) Solum of Decorah; one sister Edel (Jack) Headington of Decorah; two sisters-in-law: Judy McIntosh and Orabel Ehrie; three brothers-in-law: Duane, Gary, and Ray Flatland and several nieces and nephews.
Carrol Gordon Solum was preceded in death by his wife, LuAnn Solum, on August 5, 1995; his parents, Hans and Esther Solum and his father and mother-in-law: Ole and Anna Flatland.
