Jesse Flatland, 59, of Cresco, died Monday, Feb. 10, 1997, at the Howard County Hospital.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 13, at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco, with the Rev. Bruce Hobbert officiating. Carol Elwood was the organist. David Bigalk was the soloist.

Casket bearers were Don Scharnweber, Stan Franzen, Lyle Barth, Allan Novak, Ray Ferrie and Tom Smith. Interment was at the Fremont Lutheran Cemetery. The Lindstrom Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Jesse Duane Flatland was born Feb 12, 1937, in Winneshiek County, the son of H. Albert and Norma (Engen) Flatland. He went to school in Madison Township and the Canton (Minn.) School.

Jesse spent eight years in the Air Force. He was a farm laborer, mechanic and did custom farming. For the last 5 1/2 years he worked at Luther College as a custodian.

Jesse was united in marriage to Margaret Drake Sept. 25, 1965. To this union three children were born, Denise, Dean and Dawn. Jesse was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was the current commander of the Cresco American Legion Post No. 135. He enjoyed working in this garden.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; three children, Denise Rohm of Coralville, Dean of Hampshire, Ill., and Dawn at home; three grandchildren, Ashley and Amber Flatland, and Zachary Rohm; his brother, Kenneth Flatland of Cresco; and his sisters, Naomi Gossman of Cresco, Eldie Peterson of Paso Robles, Calif., Yvonne Krogstad of Spring Grove, Minn., and Sue Fontes of Mission Viejo, Calif.

Jesse Flatland was preceded in death by his parents.
