Services held for Winneshiek County farmer December 28

Funeral services for H. Albert Flatland, 78, a life-long resident of Winneshiek County, were held Friday, Dec. 28 at 11 a.m. at Burr Oak Lutheran Church.

Mr. Flatland died Dec. 25 at the Howard County Community Hospital in Cresco.

Pastor Marilyn Hanson conducted the services. Organist was Kathy Tollefsrud and soloist was Jolene Hovey. Steine's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements with burial in Fremont Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Steve Flatland, Randy Flatland, Dean Flatland, Greg Gossman, Mike Gossman and John Gossman.

H. Albert Flatland was born on Dec. 9, 1906 in Glenwood Township, a son of Ole H. and Hilda L. (Hanson) Flatland. He attended rural schools of Glenwood Township and married Norma H. Engen on June 22, 1932, in Decorah. She preceded him in death on August 16, 1983.

He had always lived and farmed in Winneshiek County and was a member of the Burr Oak Lutheran Church.

Survivors include six children, Noami (Mrs. Herbert) Gossman of Cresco, Kenneth Flatland of Cresco, Jesse Flatland, Cresco, Eldie (Mrs. Alton) Peterson of Paso Robles, Calif., Yvonne (Mrs. Mervin) Krogstad of Spring Grove, and Shirley Alatorre of Culver City, Calif.; 27 grandchildren; 10 great grandchilden; four brothers, Norman Flatland of Harmony, Minn., Ole of Decorah, Harold of Cresco and Charles of Palm Springs, Calif.; and three sisters, Anne Severson of Mabel, Minn., Clara Stegen of Milwaukee, Wis., and Elise Stegen of Mabel, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three sisters and one brother.
