Sarah Hotvedt former rural teacher, dies

Sarah J. Hotvedt, 89, of Decorah died December 22 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital. She was a life-long resident here and a former rural school teacher.

Pastor Paul Christenson conducted funeral services for Mrs. Hotvedt Friday at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were Rolfe Haatvedt, Arnold Peterson, Alvin Gipp, Willet Sampson, Dewey Sampson and Waldo Atherton. Mrs. Rolfe Haatvedt was organist. Funeral arrangements were made by Iverson Funeral Home.

As Sarah Juliana Juve, Mrs. Hotvedt was born July 21, 1888 in Ridgeway, the daughter of Ole and Anna Juve. She was educated in the rural schools, Ridgeway High School and Valders Normal School.

Mrs. Hotvedt is survived by two sons and a daughter, Alton Hotvedt of North Ridge, Calif. and Kermit Hotvedt of Rock Island, Ill. and Mrs. Leslie (Alice) Torkelson of San Mateo, Calif.; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Josephine Jansen of Decorah.
